Notes: The Bradley family are direct descendants of Thomas Meehan and his wife, Mary Ann Tress. Thomas’ father was James Meehan, Deputy Surveyor General under Governor Lachlan Macquarie. Thomas and Mary Ann would have lived at Macquarie Fields house, also known as Meehan’s Castle, and her parent’s, Richard and Sarah (Sally) Tress also stayed there. Sarah Tress died there in October 1827. Unfortunately the property was lost to the family after both James, then Thomas died. The building Meehan’s Castle is no longer there but a later Macquarie Field’s House was built on the land.
A very informative book about James Meehan is James Meehan A Most Excellent Surveyor by Tony Dawson published 2004.
